Self-production

Self-production

Our idea of farmhouse is born from a way of living and thinking that has bought us, across the years, to develop a multifunctional farm: besides hospitality and environmental education we dedicate ourselves to agriculture, processing and selling of produce, livestock and cheesemaking, beekeeping, forestry and in general we try to self-produce, for what possible, all that we need.

We grow and breed in a natural way, without making use of pesticides or chemical substances. Our agricultural products are used for the preparation of the dishes served at our restaurant.

We raise Brigasca sheep and Cabannina cows (both are local breeds at risk of extinction), Camosciate goats from the Alps, as well as backyard livestock such as rabbits, hens and geese. Amongst the members of our family, we cannot forget to mention the two most playful and entertaining: Limone and Garibaldi, two donkeys that are the main actors of the donkey treks and of the events related to our educational farm activities.

Amongst the products that we are most proud of, we have those typical of Liguria: Taggiasche olives and Ormeasco wine that, due to the morphologic characteristics of the territory, are cultivated on long narrow strips, thus utilizing terraced lands that have allowed farmers over the centuries to cultivate even on deep slopes. This type of cultivation implies a constant care of the territory and of the ancient handwork constructions. In particular, the regular maintenance of the dry-stone walls, an art which was included in the 2018 UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

Besides wine and extra virgin olive oil, we produce fruits and vegetables of all types, cheese and other dairy products, honey, ancient grain flour, chestnuts, jams and marmalades.
